3d Week (8-12 march) of automotive cert

This week we done work on our cars and work on engines.

Car work: Jacked up a car, put it on axle stands, take the wheels off!

To do this operations follow easy steps:

Jack up a car and put it on axle stands
1.Park the car on level ground and pull up the parking brake
2.Place a chock or a brick behind or in front of (depending on the road's incline) the wheel diagonally opposite one being jacked up.
3.Place the jack under the car's frame nearest the wheel to be jacked up.
4.Raise the jack high enough to either replace a flat tire or place the car on an axle stands
5.Slowly Lower the jack when you're finished
Take the wheels off
1.When car is standing on axle stands take the wheel nuts off.
2.Take of the wheel after taking wheel nuts of
When putting wheels back
do not tight wheel nuts to tight

Engine work: engine compression test

How to perfome it:
1. Desable ignition coil
2. remove all spark plugs
3.the throttle must to be held open
4.The engine is then cranked for a few seconds using a remote starter switch or a helper while a compression gauge is held in a spark plug hole
5.Note the max compression reading, then repeat for each of the remaining cylinders
6.Compare the individual cylinder readings to see if the results are within the specifications ( as a rule most engines should have 140-160 lbs of cranking compresion no more then 10% difference between any of the cylynders.

Well this is it for this week. =)
